I can't believe

it's been two weeks since I posted anything here. What a slacker!!!

With working and Elisha being out of school for two weeks, my time has been a little more squeezed. The past week, I've spent most of my spare time watching the Olympics. I love watching Michael Phelps because he has so much fun doing what he does!

My Dad

My dad is still in the hospital. I talked to him last night and he sounded better, but still not good. Please continue to pray for him and for the doctors that they can figure out what is wrong with him.

School starts in just 4 weeks!!

This will be my final semester. I will have my BA in English in December and I am so excited to see the end in sight. Well, I'm mostly excited. I love to learn and I love taking classes so I will be sorry to finish that part, but I will be glad to complete my course. My degree will be complete but learning is never finished.

Retro wife

You Would Make a Great 1930's Wife

You've got a few retro ways, and you would make the ideal 1930's wife.

At least, that's how it looks on paper. You may just be an easygoing, pleasant person.

With a personality like yours, you'd be a great wife in any era!

Nana's Days

Is probably the most odd blog I have. I mean, really? Does anyone care about my random thought? And yet, I feel compelled to share them. It must be an illness spread through the web. Yeah, that's it …… I'm sick … I can't help it … I'm a victim. (Why shouldn't I join the crowd? Personal responsibility is a forgotten virtue.)

The main reason I share odds and ends here is because someday, maybe my children or my grandchildren will want to connect with the person who was their mother/grandmother. In the past, we read letters left behind but since correspondence is a lost art, I blog.

I don't think so!!

I was getting ready to walk out the door and head for the grocery store the other night. I asked my Hero and my daughter if they wanted anything and they put in their orders. I then asked my grandson what he wanted.

In his cute 4-year-old way, he places his index finger on his cheek and says, "Think, think, think. Ok, I know… just bring me some sugar."

At least he's honest.

(I bought him some corndogs. Probably not much healthier, but it did assuage my guilt.)

This and that

My Hero is so good to me. He drives a delivery truck and one of his regular customers gave him some strawberry plants. I asked him to dig the hole for me so I could plant them and we talked about where we wanted to do that.

He always gets up before me because he likes his quiet time in the morning. This morning when I got up, not only had he dug the hole for me, he had already put the plants in. What a wonderful man!

I still have a few other plants to put in around my yard but I'm not sure I will get to that today and we are expecting rain in the next 24 hours so we will see.

Her surgery was a success!

My granddaughter had her surgery and did great. There was a slight blockage of her intestinal tract causing her to vomit and now she should do just fine. Praise the Lord!

Emma's surgery

My 6-week-old granddaughter is having surgery for pyloric stenosis in one hour. If you read this, could you please pray for her and for her parents? Thanks. (After this surgery, she should be fine.)

I did have a desk!!

Ahhhhh!!! It is now clean and I like sitting here again. To my shame, I found class notes from last spring amongst the mess. Yikes!

My Sugarsnap Pea

My precious little granddaughter who has my heart wrapped around her little finger, though we've never touched is having some health problems. She can't keep anything down — not breastmilk, not formula, not even pedialyte. To find out what is wrong, they have her in the hospital to run some tests. She is also on an IV in order to rehydrate her.

This is my Sugarsnap Pea:

She will be six weeks old on the 15th. My heart is physically aching to be there with her and my daughter and to see them through this. For now, I have to trust my Jesus to be there for me. (I know that is enough, but if you are a grandmother, you understand.)

I know my computer is here somewhere!

Wow!!! I need to clean my desk! If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, I must be lost in my thoughts!

My first day went great

In July of 1988, I left my last day on the job at the last "regular" job I worked. That was 20 years ago. For seven years, I worked as the paid secretary at the church my husband pastored but I never felt like it was a job. I enjoyed the work and I was serving my husband. However, the position did keep my skills honed. I had to use various software to administrate the church records and people skills are key in a church job.

Yesterday, I walked back into a "regular" job — sort of. It is a temporary position in an office. And you know what? I had a great time! There was nothing that seemed beyond the skills I've maintained over the past 20 years. The people were great and it was a great experience.

I fretted for no reason.

I need to remember: "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7

They keep telling us

The rain is going to stop. I don't think I believe them any more. I know that there are parts of the United States that could really use the rain. Iowa is not one of those places. It stared snowing in November. When it stopped snowing in April, it started raining. Someday it may stop.

More Random Thoughts

I need to sew today. I'm making myself something new to wear on the 4th at my sister's. I also have some plants that the neighbor sent over that I need to get in the ground before we go out of town tomorrow.

Other than those things, life is pretty calm. I like calm.

My stomache hurts

I have a job interview on Monday. Nervous would be an understatement. I've always excelled at any job I've ever had but it still makes me a nervous wreck to go on an interview. But, I need the money, so I'll tolerate the pain.

This dog is going to drive me crazy

She is as sweet as any dog can be, but she is spoiled. Too spoiled. She thinks if you have food, you should share. She thinks if someone is outside, she should be, too. And she is very offended if she doesn't get her way. I don't know that she knows she is a dog.

Sunday Morning

And I'm at home. I have missed more church in the past two years than I missed in the previous 40 years. First I was so sick for so long, now my grandson seems to have allergies that keep making him sick.

However, the Lord has used this time to draw me close to Him and I am reminded of how much I love going to church.

"I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD."
Psalm 122:1

It's Iowa

Only in Iowa does the grocery store host an "Ask the Farmer" Day! But, hey, they are selling grilled burgers for 50¢ so it works for me!

Why is it?

Have you ever noticed on those CSI shows how the crime scene is always immaculate except for the evidence? What is that all about? Does the maid usually leave right before a crime? Do these people not have children or pets? Maybe that's it! The best way not to be a victim of crime is to have kids and pets. Those things must scare criminals away.

It's raining again

Not right this minute, but last night. It's also supposed to rain tonight. Ugh. The only creatures around here who are relishing the rain are the bugs. The clouds of gnats could carry away a horse! I was going to do some yard work today, but that's off the agenda.

So instead, I think I'm going to work on my sewing or the church's web site.

Bugbites and Benadryl

I've always been allergic to bee stings. Now it seems as if other insect venoms are bothering me. Every little bug bite grows angry red and hot. Benadryl stops the itching, but it also stops the thinking. I don't like that. It is my thoughts that are the substance of my days. I avoid the medicine except at night and in the meantime, I itch.

Singing in the Shower

If you live in one of those houses where the shower turns cold when the washing machine turns on, you find out that an alto can hit a really high note.

Just one of the many tidbits of information that crowds ration from my mind.

I miss my kids. Their lives are scattered across thousands of miles and I miss them.

I'm sleeping better. This is a wonderful thing! There are so many things about menopause that no one tells you…insomnia is one of them.

Hoops and YoYo make me laugh.

That's about it for now. I have too much to do to linger here.

Sunday, June 22, 2008

Today is Sunday. Usually it is one of the best days of the week. This Sunday however, I don't feel so well because I'm sunburnt to a crisp.

I've spent a good deal of the day trying to update and link all my blogs together. I think it's time for a nap.
